FAQ

Do you ever work on men?
My practice is only for women.  However, I am part of Triangle Massage Partners, and recommend that men looking for therapeutic massage contact Rebecca.  Together, we also offer Couples Massage, with your choice of same or separate rooms.

What are the benefits of massage?

Massage can help relieve chronic pain and tension, increase flexibility, improve circulation, reduce blood pressure, and improve posture.  It can also reduce stress, promote better sleep, improve concentration, and create an overall sense of well-being.

What does massage feel like?
That depends on the techniques used.  In a general relaxation massage, the session usually begins with long, sweeping strokes to relax your surface muscles, and calm your mind.  As your body begins to unwind, more specific areas may be worked with a little deeper pressure to help relieve specific issues.
It is important to communicate with the practitioner if there is any discomfort, so that she can change the level of pressure or the technique being used.

How long does a session last?
The average full-body session lasts 60 to 90 minutes, depending on your needs.  If you have a limited amount of time, a 30-minute session can target a specific area, such as your back, neck, and shoulders or your legs and feet.
For the optimal session, I recommend 60 to 90 minutes sessions.

Where do the massage sessions take place?
The massages take place in a comfortable room overlooking a private garden area.  Soft lighting and music help with the relaxation process.  The specially-designed table is covered with cozy sheets and blankets.  You will be properly draped throughout the session, only the area of your body being massaged will be exposed.

Do I need to be completely undressed?
Massage techniques are traditionally performed unclothed.  Many women choose to leave their underpants on.  You may choose to wear for your own comfort.   You will be properly draped during your session.  The therapist leaves the room while you disrobe, relax onto the massage table, and cover yourself with the sheet and blanket.

Will some sort of oil or lotion be used?
Depending on what type of session you are needing, I will use essential oils blended into almond or jojoba oil, a light lotion, or a professional massage gel.  The skin usually feels soft and hydrated after a session.  If you feel you are oily, you may use the towel provided to wipe off before you dress.

What parts of my body will be massaged?
We will discuss the desired outcome of your session, which can determine which parts of your body require massage.  Generally, a full-body massage includes back, neck, shoulders, head, arms, hands, legs, and feet.

How will I feel after my massage?
Most people feel very relaxed.  Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains that are the result of tension, poor posture, or repetitive activity.
After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often feel increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity.  Sometimes, you might feel a little sore after the massage.  This usually goes away after 24 hours.

Are there any medical conditions that would make massage inadvisable?
Yes.  That is why it is imperative that before you begin your session, the practitioner asks your general health questions.  An initial intake form must be completed before your first session.  It is important that you inform your practitioner of any health problems or medications you are taking.  If you are under a doctor's care, it is strongly advised that you receive a recommendation for massage prior to your session.
